Cheater homemade oreos

I'm sure you all already know this recipe, but it's worth a post just because my kids had so much fun making them. Katie was the official dough taste tester.
The recipe is very simple. Mix a stick of softened butter with two eggs, then stir in a devil's food cake mix. I also added a half cup or so of chocolate chips, because the more chocolate the merrier. If you're really feeling adventurous, add a splash of flavoring. I'll bet mint would be tasty. Form into balls (these spread out more than you think, so ere on the small side) and bake at 350 for 8-10 minutes.
They will still be a bit puffy when you take them out of the oven. The tops should have a few cracks and be set, but the interior still very soft. Let them rest on the cookie sheet for 2-3 minutes before removing to a wire rack to cool the rest of the way.

If you want to continue in the laziness streak, pull out a tub of frosting. Otherwise, beat 4 T. butter with 8 ounces of cream cheese until smooth, then add a tablespoon of real vanilla and a cup and a half of powdered sugar and beat until fluffy. Scoop into a quart bag, snip the corner off, and have your helper squirt a nice dollop onto the ugly side of half the cookies and top with another cookie. Ooey gooey and delicious!
These keep best in the fridge, especially if you use homemade frosting. On the other hand, there just may not be any to put away.
