Black Bottom Cupcakes

My friend brought a plate full of these over last night. They're all gone. Extremely tasty little morsels. I just called to ask her for the recipe and here's what she told me:

Mix a devil's food cake mix according to the directions and fill 24 liners 1/2-2/3 full. In a small bowl beat together 1 brick of softened cream cheese, 1 egg, 1/3 cup of sugar and 1/4 cup mini chocolate chips. Spoon a dollop of the cream cheese mixture on top of the batter in each liner and bake according to the package directions.

Allow to cool and frost with either the cream cheese or chocolate frosting of your choice. At room temperature the chocolate chips stay melty and soft, but they're really yummy when refrigerated because then the chocolate chips firm up and really stand out. Make sure you hurry and give away half of them so that your hips don't explode out of your jeans, because they're just that addictive. I was pondering what would happen if you added cherry pie filling into the chocolate cake mix...that'd be downright dangerous!

Does "brick" of cream cheese mean 8 oz or 3 oz? If I had to guess I'd guess the 8 oz, but I'm just checking. Thanks.

8 ounces. I don't believe I've ever bought a 3 ounce brick! Enjoy.
